Accessibility Resources is dedicated to working with the faculty and staff on campus to meet the needs of students with disabilities. The office provides support services, adaptive technologies, and other assistance required to help all students succeed. We work with all students, whether you attend classes at the SUNY Oswego campus, Syracuse Campus or online, regardless if it's a temporary or permanent disability.

Schedule* for the 2024 ALANA Multicultural Leadership Conference:

Monday, September 16th - Dr. Ricardo Nazario y Colón, Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Vice Chancellor of DEI for the SUNY System, will visit SUNY Oswego to kick off ALANA and Latino Heritage Month celebrations hosted by Latino and Latin American Studies and the ALANA Multicultural Leadership Conference. Join Dr. Nazario y Colón as he shares his perspective on ALANA's theme and engages with student leaders in a Platica at 5 PM in the Penfield Library.

Tuesday, September 17th - Constitution Day Program focused on Student Activism. Members of the ALANA Planning Committee are collaborating with Vote Oswego and the University's Civic Engagement Coalition to host this interactive program. (Further details TBD).

Wednesday, September 18th - Open Political Dialogue hosted by the Civic Engagement Coalition and the Oswego Dialogue Project at 4:30 PM in the MCC's Laker Lounge.

Thursday, September 19th - Keynote Speaker, Ebone Bell in collaboration with "I Am Oz" will be engaging our campus community with her presentation "Level Up Leadership" in the Sheldon Hall Ballroom at 7 PM. This is a free event, however a ticket is required from the Box Office.

Saturday, September 21st, On the International Day of Peace at 11 AM the ALANA PEACE Walk will take place. The PEACE Walk will be starting at Oswego's City Hall and concluding at the Marano Campus Center. At the conclusion of the PEACE Walk there will be a closing program in the MCC Auditorium at approximately 12:30 PM where the Presidents of the Power 5 Multicultural Student Organizations will share their perspectives on ALANA's theme, this will be followed by a closing reception.

The ALANA Multicultural Leadership conference was created to showcase multicultural organizations impact on campus, while providing programs for student leader development, appreciation of diversity, and the importance of being an engaged student on campus, in preparation for your career, upon graduation and becoming an alumni.

Students who participate in the ALANA (African Latino Asian Native American) Multicultural Leadership Conference have an opportunity to develop skills that will help them as leaders and managers within their student organizations today, while preparing them for success on their career paths. By engaging in the ALANA Multicultural Leadership Conference students acquire a stronger knowledge and deeper understanding of many cultures. This experience allows students to recognize the importance of inclusion through learning about the rich diversity of our campus community and multicultural organizations. Student leaders, alumni, faculty, staff members, volunteers, along with professional speakers and performers come together to facilitate these events making it one of the most unique conferences at SUNY Oswego.

Community Council is a great way to get connected to other residents and make a difference in your community! Students who actively participate get to plan fun events for their peers, voice ideas for creating a better community and develop important leadership skills. Community Council is also a great resume-building experience. It helps students get involved early on in a SUNY Oswego leadership role that can help prepare them for other advanced opportunities. Students participating attend weekly or bi-weekly Community Council meetings and can expect to spend approximately 1-2 hours per week on Community Council.

The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is a New York State Department of Education funded program developed to increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in science, technology, engineering, math, and health-related fields. The Rice Creek property includes over 350 acres of natural habitats, 5 miles of trails, a creek and pond, an astronomical observatory, and a state-of-the-art green building. Students Helping Oz Peers —or SHOP for short—opened its pantry in October 2016 as the first student-run food and clothing pantry within the SUNY system. It provides students, faculty, and staff with FREE non-perishable food, toiletries, sexual and reproductive health products, and professional and winter apparel. SHOP is a collaborative effort between on and off campus partners who recognize the need to address food insecurity on our campus. SHOP is located in the basement of Penfield Library to the right of the elevator.

The Student Health Advisory Committee (S.H.A.C.) is a vehicle for student input. This group is comprised of interested students who have volunteered to work with the Walker Health Center staff to improve knowledge and awareness of the Center's services among Oswego State University students. Members help to shape campus health policy, work as liaisons between students and Health Center staff, and participate in quality improvement activities. Vote Oswego is a project to help members of the Oswego community make an impact in all elections by stressing the importance of political participation no matter the political affiliation; making registration fun, easy, and secure; providing personalized support; and encouraging eligible voters to submit absentee ballots or go to the polls.

Important Terms when Voting:
Voting location: A polling place is where voters cast their ballots in elections. Depending on what address the student REGISTERED TO VOTE with; their polling location may not be in Oswego.

Absentee voting: An absentee ballot is a vote cast by someone who is unable or unwilling to attend the official polling station to which the voter is normally allocated. If the student is registered to vote at their home address that is not located in Oswego County and they plan on being in Oswego on Election Day, they should be voting absentee.

Non-partisanship: lack of bias, especially towards any particular political group.
